Terms of Use

These tools are free to use for any purpose, including commercial work. They are also provided as-is, which has real implications worth reading if you are about to rely on a conversion.

Using the tools

You may use these tools for personal and commercial purposes at no cost, with no account and no attribution requirement. The output of a conversion is your data. We claim no rights over anything you process, and could not, since we never receive it.

You are responsible for the data you process. Do not use these tools in a way that breaks the law where you are, and do not attempt to disrupt the service for others, for example by automating requests at a volume intended to degrade it.

No warranty

These tools are provided without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

That is not boilerplate in this case, and it is worth being concrete about why. Format conversion involves judgement calls: whether a numeric-looking string is a number, how an XML attribute maps onto a JSON key, what happens to an HTML element Markdown cannot express. Each tool documents the decisions it makes, but a decision that is right for most data may be wrong for yours.

Verify the output before relying on it, particularly for anything irreversible, a database migration, a production configuration change, a financial record. Check that identifiers kept their leading zeros, that large numbers kept their precision, and that nothing you needed was dropped. The glossary entry on lossy conversion explains what to look for.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of these tools, including data loss or corruption, lost profits, or business interruption, whether or not we were advised such damage was possible.

Availability and changes

The site is provided on a best-effort basis with no uptime guarantee. Tools may be added, changed or removed, and the behaviour of a tool may change if a defect is fixed. A correction to a conversion can alter the output for input that previously produced a wrong result.

Because processing happens in your browser, these tools do not depend on this site being reachable once a page has loaded. A page you already have open continues to work offline.

How your information is handled is covered separately by the privacy policy and the cookie policy, which form part of these terms.

These terms may be updated; the current version is always the one on this page. If you have a question about them, use the contact page.
